Remember the spring summer 2010 Chloe show? The scruffy blonde model who rocked the double denim look that changed our wardrobes for the entire summer? We ALL worked a denim shirt with a pair of jeans in the same colour. Our boyfriends didn’t understand it. Not that we cared.
Updated for autumn winter 2012 may we introduce to you the double leather trend! Ranging from modern tough-girl-cool - think skinny leather pants, bra top, biker jacket - to a more sophisticated silhouette aka longer line leather skirts, Céline knee-high boots, Hermes full-on leather trench, there’s one thing for sure, this look does not require a handlebar moustache, a flat cap or partaking in any night-time activity in Berlin. Honest.
So, how do wear you this dastardly double leather business? Answer: any way you like! There’s full-on tailored, streamlined chic a la Céline where precision cut leather skirts should be worn with immaculate leather tops (all in black, obvs). This look may also require painting your flat white and pretending your boyfriend runs the Tate Modern.
Alternatively mix a red leather biker jacket with a knee length leather skirt, add a stripy t-shirt and make like Debbie Harry all the way to the bar. Double leather can be naughty or haughty, chic or grungy.
Either way, one thing’s for sure, you’ll get a lot of attention wearing double leather on the bus, just what a girl needs in a double dip recession, we say.
