Amid masterminding her huge comeback, releasing two surprise singles and being a bridesmaid at her best friend's wedding, Taylor Swift has now made a 'very sizeable donation' to a food bank in Houston in the wake of the devastating hurricane which has engulfed the city.

The Houston Food Bank updated their followers on Facebook over the weekend in a post centred around a picture of Swift.

They said the singer has 'generously made a very sizeable donation to Houston Food Bank in honour of her mother who graduated from the University of Houston.'

'We thank you, Taylor, and we thank everyone for donating to help rebuild our community,' they wrote.

Hurricane Harvey led to mass flooding in Houston, where an estimated 52 inches of rain fell in just five days, the most ever recorded on US soil. The hurricane is being blamed for at least 44 deaths and has ravaged hundreds of thousands of homes and vehicles.

Swift has followed the likes of Beyoncé, a native of Houston, who directed her BeyGOOD foundation to help with relief efforts on the ground and work with local organisations. She has encouraged fans to donate to the organisation which will help provide cots, blankets and pillows, baby products, feminine products and wheelchairs to those affected.

Last week, it emerged Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged $1million to relief efforts and the Kardashian family announced they were donating $500,000 to organisations including the red cross and salvation army.
