One of the unexpected pleasures of planning a wedding for me was discovering really amazing artisans.

One of those was Ungar & Ungar – a family-run jewellery business based in Hertfordshire.

Currently run by husband-and-wife team Bernard and Ruth Ungar and boasting a heritage that spans back to Eastern Europe in the 1920s, Ungar & Ungar specialises in Art Deco-inspired jewellery that - for me - is the perfect balance between traditional bride and bold statement.

I’m not normally a big wearer of jewellery but at the eleventh hour I fell in love with a diamond and silver link bracelet that I wore on my right wrist, and in retrospect, I am so pleased I did. It is so prominent in the pictures (see below) and I think I would have looked a bit bare without it.

Plus, wearing meaningful jewellery on the day has bonuses beyond great shots for the wedding album.

As Ruth very smartly explains: ‘Unlike your wedding dress, bridal jewellery does not just have to be for the big day.

‘Pick the right, high quality pieces and they can be worn on the honeymoon and for many years to come.

‘What better heirloom to pass on than a beautiful pair of earrings or necklace, or even our beautiful diamond and pearl tiara, that you wore on your wedding day?’

Indeed.
