Rosie Huntington-Whiteley knows good lingerie. After nine years modelling for lingerie brands, the model, actress and ELLE cover star is moving to the other side of the equation by releasing her own lingerie range.
‘I have a solid understanding of what makes beautiful lingerie and how good quality lingerie should make you feel,’ she told ELLE. ‘So working on designing this line with Marks & Spencer has been an exciting and fulfilling experience for me to say the least.’
A year in the making, the Rosie for Autograph collection includes lingerie sets, French knickers and a kimono-style robe.
‘I wanted the collection to feel exquisite, elegant and feminine,’ Huntington-Whiteley said. To that end, she referred to the vintage slips, corsets, kimonos and dressing gowns she has acquired over years of collecting lingerie. She sought inspiration from the golden age of cinema and more down-to-earth sources, asking friends and family members to share what is they want from their undergarments.
With a colour palette based on real rose shades and rose motifs running through the embroidery, the designs ‘feel romantic and sensual whilst being sophisticated and suit[ing] every skin colour,’ Huntington-Whiteley said. ‘I wanted every feature of the bra to stand out and correlate and to have the handwriting of a rose.’
The Autograph line is the latest step in a lifelong preoccupation with fashion. ‘My bedroom walls were just covered with photographs of dresses and campaigns that I liked and models,’ when she was 16, Huntington-Whiteley said. ‘My bedroom was just a big mood board.’
And is she satisfied with the results of her efforts? ‘I have loved every minute of it. I hope that people will enjoy the pieces as much as I have had designing them. Hopefully this just the beginning.’
Rosie for Autograph launches into Marks & Spencer on 30 August.
