Baby bangs—that is, fringe cut intentionally shorter than your eyebrows—have been trending since the beginning of the year. But it appears that the polarising haircut trend is here to stay, at least until the end of spring 2019. Model Kaia Gerber just hit the Miu Miu spring 2019 runway in Paris wearing one of the boldest baby bangs looks we've seen this year.

'The Miu Miu show this season has been so full-on. The Miu Miu girl is tough, sophisticated and always rebellious, so to celebrate this, I’ve done so many haircuts, like bobs and short cuts at this show, as well as a half-wig/half-real hair look,' hairstylist and Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau explained backstage. Gerber's hair is likely a combination of her real hair and a faux bangs, with some extra extensions added in for length.

'My key product for this show was Redken Wind Blown 05 to get texture in the cuts, then I used Redken Forceful 23 to enhance the severity of the looks. I also worked with Redken Global Creative Color Director Josh Wood, who coloured the wigs using Redken Colour Gels Lacquers and Redken Shades EQ to get the wigs to match the girls’ natural hair colours exactly,' says Palau. 'The looks at the show are inspired by tough girls in the late 60s and early 70s, like a rebellious girl that would cut her fringe in an extreme way. That’s why you’re seeing these extreme lengths at this show.'

Just a few hour earlier, Gerber walked in the Chanel spring 2019 beach-inspired show with her hair in a much more natural style: loose waves that were centre-parted and lightly pulled back into a half-up ponytail.

Baby bangs have popped up on the foreheads of major fashion and beauty influencers over the past several months. We've even seen them on the red carpet on Emma Watson, Sofia Boutella, and Emma Roberts. 'I'm obsessed with baby/micro fringe,' celebrity hairstylist Christopher Naselli told BAZAAR.com back in January. 'It's the perfect way to make your haircut modern and open up your face. It's an edgy statement but yet super soft.'
