For the first time in the fashion house’s history, the legendary Chanel N°5 fragrance has been redesigned in red, a limited-edition which can be pre-ordered as of today.

Known for its clean rectangular clear glass bottle with a facetted stopper and minimalist branding, the look of Chanel N°5 is as distinctive as its scent. Now, for Christmas 2018, it comes cloaked in red, marking the brand’s first ever alteration of its iconic packaging.

Why? Besides pleasing collectors and fragrance fans, plus Christmas shoppers looking for true festive feels, red holds special meaning for the house of Chanel. It’s “the colour of life, the colour of blood,” said the late Gabrielle Chanel, who only wanted to dress women in black, white, beige, gold – and red.

The ruby red Chanel N°5 bottles will be available in either glass (for the 100ml Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum) or Baccarat crystal (for the luxury 900ml Parfum) – of which only 55 have been produced.

Or you could go all out and opt for the 2.5 metre tall red fragrance bottle. OK, you can’t buy it, there are only five in the world and they’re popping up over London from today, but you could stand next to it and get the ultimate chic Chanel shot. If you’re around and you see one of these celebratory monuments, it will absolutely be great for the ‘gram.

Beginning with its debut in Annabel's Mayfair on the 13th of November, the five bottles will then intermittently appear in Chanel's boutique on New Bond Street, in Spitalfields and Duke of York Square, before ending the adventure in Covent Garden.

Subscribe to the pre-launch at chanel.com and shop the limited edition Chanel N°5 in stores from November 2nd.
