In her Goopiest move yet, Gwyneth Paltrow has announced that she is now a co-owner of an AI-powered meditation app named Moments Of Space. The catch? It takes on an ‘eyes-open' approach to meditation.

Taking to her Instagram, Paltrow said: ‘Eyes-open meditation has been transformational in my day-to-day life, which is why I’ve become a co-owner of Moments Of Space, a meditation app dedicated to awakening the world through powerful eyes-open meditation. You can do it any time, any place.’

Moments Of Space was founded in 2022 by Kim Little and Julian Murphy – a former Apple director who helped launch the iPhone and the App Store – with the intention being to tackle the misconception that meditation requires long stretches of time, stillness, and silence. The app features AI-generated meditational practices, which aim to help guide users through a more gentle approach to meditation that can easily be implemented into a busy life.

Moments Of Space follows hot on the heels of the launch of a string of meditation apps, including Calm, which was founded in 2012. According to the platform, 'eyes-open' meditation is 'a practice where you meditate with your eyes partially or fully open. It involves maintaining a gentle and relaxed gaze, without focusing intently on any particular object. This technique allows you to be aware of your surroundings while still being centred and mindful.'

Speaking to ELLE US in March 2024, Paltrow confessed that meditation as a whole has changed her life. 'Eyes-open' meditation, Paltrow said, is 'pretty impactful' and perfect for 'beginners or anybody who thinks, I can’t sit still, I have too much going on in my head. Or, I don’t have the time.'

The Goop founder's relationship with meditation began in the 90s when she started practicing at the end of her yoga classes, before years later embarking on a transcendental meditation course herself. Paltrow found her way back to meditation in the early days of the pandemic, 'when everything slowed down quite a lot,' and now her and her husband, writer-director Brad Falchuk, meditate together every morning. 'I feel us go into this deeply personal, but intimate space. The space around both of us has the same tenor, but it’s very internal,' she said. 'I’m not sure if it strengthens our relationship, but it feels like it does.'
