Throughout the awards season you can always guarantee A-listers to grace the red carpet with pristine and elegantly subdued make-up and hair looks. But when the more playful MTV Awards roll around celebrities embrace the carefree attitude of the event and showcase more adventurous, fun and colourful beauty looks. And this year was no exception; from Selena Gomez’s sky-high dishevelled plait to Karlie Kloss’s bold red lip, click through to see who made our favourite beauty looks of the night...
Zoe teamed tousled soft waves with a bold tomato hued lip, matte complexion and a slick of liquid black eyeliner. A signature classic look.

Emma Watson, who took home the award for Trailblazer, opted for pretty, classic make-up – employing some expert tricks along the way like applying white eyeliner in her water line to really accentuate her eyes and using a light base so that her natural freckles peek through – all adding to the youthfulness of the look.
Over on hair Emma’s shoulder length, honey highlighted locks were swept back in to a low slung, slightly dishevelled bun and paired with a deep side parting. A low-effort do’ that we’ll definitely be recreating.

We coined this look as the ‘new classic’ backstage at London fashion week. Partnering a bold lip, like Karlie’s tangerine shade, with white eyeliner in the waterline and black liner on the lash line. Karlie’s decision to add lashings of mascara makes the look more wearble.

Selena’s gravity-defying, dishevelled plait paired with a volume quiff was the most dramatic and intricate of the night (probably had the most hairspray and clips too!). And went for a creamy nudie pink lip and soft smoky eyes.
Kerry’s tousled chignon and dramatic black smoky eyes says laid-back cool - very in keeping with the tone of the evening.

Brittany Snow
A sleek and powerful make-up and hair combo. Brittany’s super-straight, ashy blonde bob teamed with smoky eyes create an edgy quality, whilst the glossed pink lips soften the look.

Hayley Williams
Lilac seems to be the celebrity adventurous shade of choice but Hayley’s has upped the game a few notches. Neon tangerine and Barbie pink duo and a mid-way fringe. Not something we’re running out to try but kudos for being the most colourful person in the room. Plus that matte coral lip is our favourite shade of the night.

Kylie Minogue
Our January cover star kept her make-up low-key and stylish and let her metallic Paco Rabanne dress do the talking. A wise move as a bold lip could have been too much, whereas soft waves and a simple nude lip and smoky eye combo worked brilliantly.

Holland Roden
Teen Wolf star, Holland chose to sweep back her auburn locks and tuck them behind her ears (a trick we love) for instant sophisticated glamour. The peachy lips and pinched cheeks give the look a fresh, spring feel.
ELLE Style Awards winner, Chloe Moretz got our vote for best nails of the night (see here) and played the rest of her look laid-back and stylish with voluminous, textured waves and simple make-up.

Crystal Reed
Teen Wolf star, Crystal Reed went for a textured, unpolished up-do in keeping with one of our favourite hair trends of the season – ‘English rose hair’. Pairing this with pretty make-up and lashings of mascara kept the look pretty and feminine.

Ke$ha
Not a look we’re dashing home to try, and it's more autumn winter than spring summer, but we do love that glossed, deep wine lip; we’d have gone for minimal elsewhere though.
