Just like Gwyneth’s year of fashion reinvention in 2008, Drew Barrymore has used 2009 to try every hair trend that ever was.

We first noticed her budding beauty credentials at the Golden Globes with a newly blonde bouffant. Where had her boho waves gone? Created by her Italian hairstylist Giannandrea, he told WWD.com, “people say sometimes less is more, but to me less is less. With Drew, we always try to do things that are a bit unusual, yet beautiful. The idea is always to do something that really stands out. She is Hollywood royalty." Not everyone loved the style, but it certainly grabbed the headlines and succeeded in getting Drew’s hair firmly on our beauty radar.

Since the Globes she has stepped out in pretty updos complete with jewelled fascinators, 60s inspired ponytails and eighties slicked-back waves - Giannandrea told US ELLE he’s going through a “retro phase”…

Her lowest point? There’s only been one; the black dip-dyed ends. But hey, you can’t get it right every time. Thankfully she’s chopped them off and is now sporting a shaggy bob (nicknamed ‘the shag’) just like Victoria Beckham.

Let’s hope Drew and Giannandrea keep knocking on the door of change and create more new styles for 2010. Just don’t forget the hair masks Drew, all that heat styling can’t be good…
