With a recently launched Valentine's Day collection that's seriously NSFW (the aubergine emoji bath bomb is channelling major BDE), you'd be forgiven for thinking LUSH's latest move is a little risqué.

We're talking about the first ever LUSH naked shop.

Sounds a little Carry On and a whole lot fleshy, but LUSH's nude innovation is all about stripping down their product packaging, not their employees.

First to have a naked makeover and due to re-open on Friday 18th January is the Manchester store at 10 Market Street. The genius shopping innovation involves a complete renovation of the original shop, after which it will become the first plastic packaging-free cosmetics shop in the country.

With consumers becoming ever more concerned with sustainability and eco-friendly formulas, beauty brands are having to step up their game to help reduce plastic pollution. And it seems LUSH are leading the way.

From classic LUSH products like the solid shampoo bars and soaps, to completely new naked product innovations (including a snazzy new app that scans products without using a barcode on packaging), the naked shop could be a game changer for the way we purchase our beauty products in the future.

The Manchester overhaul comes after the success of Lush’s first Naked shops in Milan and Berlin that opened in 2018 and have since sold over 8000 solid shampoo bars. Or, as LUSH puts it, that's up to 616,880 hair washes that haven’t come from plastic bottles!

Speaking on the industry-changing opening Lush Co-founder and Managing Director, Mark Constantine OBE, said:

'In Lush we work in an industry where the packaging costs the customer more than the product. Now, the customer needs to worry about how to recycle something they didn’t want to buy in the first place. This seems like a raw deal to us. If we can cut out all the plastic packaging, we can give our customers better value for money.'

Although LUSH haven't announced any immediate plans to open more naked shops around the UK, we're feeling a plastic-free revolution coming on.
