London: our nations capital, home of cutting-edge fashion, Olympic heroes and ELLE HQ. What better way to welcome summer by celebrating our world-class patch in all is glory, both present and past? ELLE is race-ready for the Bupa London 10,000 the fast and flat course that weaves its way through central London, and centuries of history. Starting on The Mall where the Olympic Marathon runners took the stage less than two years ago, the course heads east to take in Nelsons Column, along the Victoria Embankment, the heaving Thames to the right, and Millennium Wheel keeping a watchful eye. Past the many beautiful bridges, Sir Christopher Wrens masterpiece (St. Pauls Cathedral, of course) and Leadenhall Market, the route then turns west at the halfway point, leaving time for but a passing glance of Roman Londinium. On to the Monument of the Great Fire, speeding towards Houses of Parliament, leafy St. James Park looks to be a welcome home stretch, with finishers sprinting through to cross the finish in front of the imposing Buckingham Palace, and the balcony that brought us kiss. A whirlwind tour of a city we love, in three stripes and 10,000 steps.
