There's big hair—and then there's the hair seen on the pre-fall2019 Versace runway last night. Model Grace Elizabeth's hair was pulled into a super-high ponytail, decorated with three Versace brooches, and then pounds of fake hair were added in for the sky-high cascading effect. The look was reminiscent of the latest Valentino runway, where model Kaia Gerber stormed the catwalk in hair so voluminous you could practically see it from the ISS.

Elizabeth was one of a few models who walked in the fall 2019 Versace show in NYC wearing the massive hair look. Other models like Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Irina Shayk, Stella Maxwell, and Imaan Hammam wore their hair either in natural curls or slicked over to one side and secured with a few classic Versace pins.

The hair at Versace was created by the same lead hairstylist from the Valentino show: Guido Palau for Redken. 'The big hair was inspired by Pierpaolo Piccioli, he wanted to have some extravagance in the hair and we were looking at old '60s Diana Vreeland Harper's Bazaar and Avedon shoots,' Palau told BAZAAR.com at the time. 'These women who had these glorious kind of dream hair. They wanted a fantasy about hair that women dream about. It was couture hair.' Palau and his team used Redken Guts to prep then dried the hair, fastened six hair pieces on each girl, then smoothed it with Redken Shine Flash and Redken Forceful 23 hairspray.

The comeback of massive hair started on the fall 2018-2019 couture runways. We saw a voluminous faux bob at Giambattista Valli, as well as a teased pompadour at Ralph & Russo. At the Fendi couture show, hairstylist Sam McKnight whipped up retro updos. And at the Chanel show, he upgraded otherwise sleek ponytails with a Rockabilly twist pinned right on top of the head.
