With the festive season on our icy doorstep, you've got about three seconds before your social calendar fills up. Whether you're drinking mulled wine pre-Christmas or the fizz of New Year, there will be no shortage of events - and you'll need an outfit for each.

But whatever your winter look, your hair is an easy way to add a runway-inspired touch (even to that intentionally ugly jumper).

Sleek, deep-parted looks made an appearance in the SS17 shows, with Balmain sending models out with slicked to the side 'dos. But the look is lasting - similar styles were seen in Jason Wu's SS18 show.

We loved it as a summertime go-to, but the style works equally well for rocking around the Christmas tree.

Follow ELLE Junior Fashion Editor Felicity Kay's guide to get the look:

Step one: Dry your hair using a paddle brush (we recommend the Tangle Teezer Smoothing Tool to rid yourself of knots as you go) and a hairdryer you can control the temperature with, angled parallel to your hair.

The ideal setting is 80°C, as drying below 150°C ensures hair won't look dull from exposure to extreme temperatures. We used a Dyson Supersonic™ as it uses intelligent heat control to get the perfect setting and leaves your locks glossy sans damage.

Step two: Use a pin tail comb to nail a perfectly straight parting and flip you hair away from your best side.

Step three: Set your hair with a shot of cold air while brushing through.

Step four: Smooth some Sebastian Dark Oil through your hair and comb into a low ponytail. Take a one centimetre piece of hair from the side of your ponytail and wrap around where your tie is.

Step five: Finish by setting your Dyson Supersonic hairdryer to 100°C and low speed and aiming at stubborn flyaways for an overall polished look.
