Bid farewell to the scraped-back ponytail, wave goodbye to grown-out braids and leave the messy buns at hoe, because SS22 just took 'done' hair and turned it up to 11. Look to Moschino, where Mars Attacks!-esque bouffants and beehives dominated backstage; Giambattista Valli, where exuberant, OTT ribbons reigned; and Versace, which hailed the return of XXL poker-straight lengths. Taking the situation to new heights (quite literally) was Emilia Wickseas, where gravity-defying cylinders and hovering doughnut buns summed up the hair mantra of the season: loud, proud and seriously sculptural. If you're looking for 'I woke up like this' nonchalance, keep moving. It's time to make some shapes.

'Go big! If clothes can be geometric, why can't your hair be geometric, too?' says pro hairstylist, industry trendsetter and Dyson global ambassador Larry King. No stranger to. hair that's bigger, bolder and better, King is all about the new season's larger-than-life looks. 'It's about making a statement - from your hair to the clothes you're wearing - being confident, being out-there, being more individual and embracing all of that. It's about wearing your hair to the maximum and fulfilling its potential,' he says. So if there was ever a moment for an avant-garde hair reinvention, it's now.

Here, King's interpretation of SS22's architectural swerves and curves were a matter of smoothing, sculpting, pinning and plaiting and, in a few cases, carving, his way to hair art. Think a cubist take on the classic backcomb, a ceiling-skimming bowl cut, bundles of blunt-cut braids and a quiff so oversized Gwen Stefani could never. The message? Go big, or go home.

Amazing Grace

An ode to the one and only Grace Jones: Larry brings the buzz cut into 2022 with a clever spin on the flat top. 'From the front it looks like a cut, but it's an illusion,' says Larry. 'I pinned the hair into a bun at the back and shaped the rest into a faux flat top using the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer's Styling Concentrator, £30, to get that real tightness and definition in the sides.' Zero commitment, maximum reward.

Right Angles

Contrasting textures are key to creating Larry's cubist blowdry. 'Section of the hair with a sharp side parting, then use a round brush to lift the hair into place, getting volume in at the roots and exaggerating that squared-off top,' says Larry. Run mousse through the ends before diffusing dry to entice out any curls or movement.

Serious Structure

The sky is literally the limit when it comes to statement-making hair. Luckily, that doesn't mean sacrificing shine. Here, Larry King uses a wide-tooth comb attachment to stretch out and shape the hair - minus the heat damage. Then, finish by using the Dyson Supersonic Flyaway attachment, £30, 'To help you get a smooth symmetrical look for that sculptural feel.'

Pin Up

Rockabilly quiffs reach new heights, thanks to bundles of more-is-more curls. 'The secret is to get the texture into the hair before you bring it up into the quiff,' says Larry. Give hair a boost with a spritz of volumising spray, then use the Dyson Corrale, £399.99, to create loads of curls. Twist the back, pin in place and gather up curls for a modern and movable take on a classic.

It's A Wrap

Braid your way to shapely hair with piles of plaits and perfectly shorn pom poms. Here, Larry uses extra-long extensions wrapped around each other before straightening the ends for a flawless poker-straight finish.
