The allure of decades past has always served as a reference point in hairstyling. In recent years, Farrah Fawcett's long curtain bangs and volumising layers have inspired Gen-Z influencers and celebrities alike such as Matilda Djerf and Brie Larson, while the retro party bob made waves earlier this year as stars like Aubrey Plaza and Zendaya sported the 1950s glam hairstyle at the SAG awards.

The 1990s returned in full force too. Claw clips and scrunchies are once again an everyday essential thanks to Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner (and remember Margot Robbie's mini braids?).

The one era that most of us tend to shy away from? The good ol' 1980s, where the general hair philosophy was 'the higher the hair, the closer to heaven'. Think XXL volume, crimped texture and uneven 'business-in-the-front-party-in-the-back' lengths. Eighties beauty looks are undeniably fun, but they don't exactly have a reputation for being timeless or traditionally beautiful - a challenge that fearless style star Florence Pugh is all too happy to take on.

For an appearance in London last night, Pugh and hairstylist Peter Lux looked to Billy Idol's Rebel Yell video to inform her new fluffy, icy blonde hairstyle. Pugh is no stranger to experimenting with her hair. She's gone from bohemian waves with pink tips and blonde bobs, to intricate, sculptural updos, pale pink crops and now a plush, all-over cool blonde pixie cut that feels especially refreshing amidst all the sunkissed hair colours that come around every summer.

Worn against a fiery red Moschino jumpsuit, gold accessories by Tiffany & Co., styled by Rebecca Corbin-Murray, and mauve smokey eyes by make-up artist Alex Babsky, the look was pure 1980s glamour with a modern day punk spin. Back in 2022, Pugh told Elle.com: 'I don’t [look] the same way every single day. I am too greedy for that. I want to be everything, and I want to look like everything, and I want to change my personality every single day.'

She was made to be a style chameleon, and we're here for it.
