For an iconic beauty product, YSL Beauté’s Touche Éclat is often misunderstood. Never intentionally a concealer, but an illuminating pen, the trend-setting product has been long-loved for camouflaging – rather than concealing – dark shadows with a layer of luminosity.

This radiating quality of the product's formula is why Touche Éclat makes the ‘best buy’ lists for use on your under-eyes, but not so much for spots and blemishes.

In response to customers craving more coverage comes its big sister, Touche Éclat High Cover Radiance Concealer, a fellow click-click pen with a brush applicator, out this February 13th. The new formula is designed to conceal and brighten at the same time, meaning it can be used to mask dark circles, spots, and other imperfections on your face.

Legendary make-up artist Tom Pecheux, who is also the global beauty director for Yves Saint Laurent, explains how to use the two products in tandem. 'For super perfect skin, I will cover first with Touche Éclat High Cover, then use foundation where needed, and then finally add a very light touch of [the original] Touche Éclat Radiant Touch on top to bring extra light to the under-eye area.'

In fact, this is what he did for the campaign shoot starring Kaia Gerber, Zoe Kravitz and Staz Lindes (pictured).

When it comes to flawless concealing, Pecheux’s technique depends upon what requires covering. Using the new Touche Éclat High Cover (which comes in 16 shades), he explains: 'If you are aiming to cover dark circles under your eyes, the general rule is to look for a slightly paler shade than your natural skin tone.

'If you want to cover pimples, the hardest thing is to hide the volume of the imperfection. Where it is raised on the skin, it will naturally catch the light, which makes it look bigger. So it is a good idea to pick a shade of Touche Éclat High Cover that isn’t lighter than your own skin tone,' he adds.

For a really bad blemish, he has a hack: 'I suggest taking a q-tip and with a little powder, dot the pimple as a finishing touch with a powder to make sure that the dome of the spot doesn’t catch the light and reflect it.' And definitely don’t take the original Touche Éclat to it.
