Brace yourselves for more Gucci brights as the Italian brand has made its official return to the makeup world.

The new lipstick collection has just dropped featuring a whopping 58 shades. There's the same abundance of vibrant colours we've come to expect from creative director Alessandro Michele, from bold reds to head-turning pinks and dramatic black, chosen with diversity and inclusion in mind.

There's three different formulas to choose from: 36 Rouge à Lèvres Satin (satin finish), 18 Rouge à Lèvres Voile (sheer finish), and four Baume à Lèvres (translucent balmy finish). We'll take all 58, please.

'Make-up is something poetic and fleeting that you can add to your face, changing or highlighting something about yourself,' Michele told WWD. 'I find it an almost magical language, strongly linked to the other details I use for the expression of the self, such as jewellery and a hairstyle. Of all these aspects needed to emphasise or underline an aspect of ourselves, make-up is the most immediate and the oldest way, making it the most fascinating.

'Lipstick is the most beautiful object you can find inside a handbag,' he continued. 'It is the most fascinating because it has always had a beautiful scent — we made Gucci lipsticks perfumed with violet. Lipstick is a playful object because it recalls crayons that children colour with. Lipstick also symbolises the world of cinema, and all the famous lips from Hollywood.'

Given Michele's love affair with art, the new lipstick bullets come in to-die-for gold tones featuring Art Deco motifs as well as turquoise and ivory colours adorned with a floral design that calls to mind Gucci's signature fragrance, Gucci Bloom. The one consistency for every lipstick is a golden base and violet scent.

Michele, who launched Gucci's new fragrance family to much acclaim, says he was inspired by the vintage glamour of the Fifties, specifically 'Hollywood divas and the mythology of cinema, which first put lips in the spotlight.' This is reflected in the names of the lipstick shades, from Jean Harlow to Bette Davis.

As for the campaign imagery, teasers have appeared on the brand's Instagram page, shot by Martin Parr. They don't strive for perfection because that's not who the Gucci Beauty girl is. The Gucci Beauty girl is Dani Miller, lead singer of punk band Surfbort, whose gapped-tooth wide grin celebrates quirks (below). The campaign also features a diverse cast of models like Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins.

Oh, and this is just the beginning. The rebirth of Gucci Beauty will see a series of subsequent product launches that gives each makeup category its moment in the spotlight and allows the makeup offering to steadily grow in keeping with the brand's aesthetic.

So get involved: the lipstick collection is available now on gucci.com and will arrive at Harrods.com on 28th May.
