If there's one thing designer Nicolas Ghesquière loves, it's a high fashion dystopia.

Take one eighties power woman (complete with bedazzled shoulder pads), add a dash of OTT rockabilly and more than a hint of neo-futuristic techy twists (hello leather LV holdalls decked out with TV screens) and you've got Ghesquière's, now signature, Louis Vuitton look. And we're pretty into it.

Why? Because in a post-Gucci era, our inner maximalist is all about more is more, and in Louis Vuitton's case that means make-up.

Forget I woke up like this, for Louis Vuitton's Cruise 2020 show, set in the appropriately neo-futurist Trans World Flight Centre at New York's JFK airport, Ghesquière opted for full on '80s going out-out hair and make-up.

The inspiration? Between the victory roll coifs, neon bright blusher and cherry red lips, LV was serving serious Rachel from Bladerunner vibes. Dystopian city scapes? Check. Retro takes on futuristic silhouettes? Double check. Oh, and did we mention Bladerunner is set in 2019? Ghesquiere, we see you.

Creating the high contrast make-up look was Mother of make-up and backstage legend, Pat McGrath. After lining models' eyes with heavy black pencil, McGrath applied a hot pink shade from her MTHRSHP Subversive Lavieen Rose Eyeshadow Palette to their temples and cheekbones to create a Boy George-worthy blush.

Finishing the film noir-inspired look was a slick of McGrath's own MatteTrance Lipstick in Forbidden Love and a brushed out crimp-meets-beehive fluffy enough to rival any fictional New Romantic.
