Previously used exclusively at festivals when you were sixteen, neon face paint has since evolved into a fashion week-approved and totally sophisticated make-up trend in the form of eyeliner.

The easiest way to add a colourful twist to your regular black cat eye, electric shades of liner have officially landed as the make-up trend of the summer.

Think Instagram's obsession with strobe eyeliner but for the more understated make-up fans.

Celebrities and make-up artists alike are showing their love for the trend by using vivid shades to add a pop of colour to eyes, without going too OTT. Frankly, if Rihanna's doing it then we’re on board.

We first saw the trend emerge backstage at fashion week, with the likes of Natasha Zinko, Guy Laroche and Carolina Herrera all choosing to adorn models with a pop of neon bright eyeliner.

And now, luckily for us, the trend has reached the high street with an array of multi-coloured eyeliners available to add to basket ASAP. Which means we'll have an entire rainbow of bright liners to play around with.

Whether it’s a delicate line on the inner corner of your eye RiRi style, or extreme blown out two-tone winged liner a la Camila Mendes at the Met Gala, we’re welcoming the shift from jet black eyeliner to electric brights.
