I've given various make-up apps a whirl in a bid to hunt down the perfect nude lipstick to complement my olive skin or a highlighter that doesn't give my complexion an ashy tinge, only to buy said product and feel cheated when I realise that it isn't the 'perfect' fit I was promised.

But I think we've all been there, right?

Enter Slapp, one of the few make-up apps that actually delivers on its word to match you to beauty buys you won't chuck in a box under your bed for when you 'catch a tan' or can be bothered to mix with something else.

As a total beauty-obsessive, I was obviously intrigued, but what swayed me is that, unlike other apps which ask you to enter your card details to view your matches, it's totally free - and seeing as stocking up your make-up bag costs an absolute bomb anyway, I was sold.

So this is how it works: By uploading a picture from your camera roll (or snapping one there and then if you're brave), you can then tap on multiple areas of your face to find your true shade, although it advises you to stick to certain ones, such as your cheeks and chin for the very best match.

Simply press 'continue,' and it'll give you a list of products from foundation to concealer, powder to highlighter and more which you're able to filter depending on your beauty needs. Once you've decided, it'll serve up a whole hoard of potential colour matches from high-end brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, Estee Lauder and Illamasqua. But one of the greatest things is that it only pulls products from those that cater to all skin tones.

I was still a little sceptical as I scrolled through but that's before I realised that the app had actually matched me to a Too Faced foundation I had bought a few days before - win number one.

Lower down on the list was a Bobbi Brown highlighter I actually stockpile year after year thanks to its ability to give even the most dull skin a lit-from-within glow (theBrightening Finishing Powder in Nude in case you were wondering) - and, you guessed it, I was pretty much sold after that.

The best part though?

New brands and shades are added to the app every month and you can click to shop straight away, so if fighting your way through a sea of people just to get to the Selfridges beauty hall gives you anxiety, or you simply just don't have time to swatch like an Instagram-pro, this is one for you.
