Best Make-up Autumn/Winter 2014: New York Fashion Week

<p>We braved the freezing New York temperatures and even a blizzard to investigate the emerging beauty trends for next season. <p><strong>Make-up Artist:</strong> James Kaliardos for Nars</p><p><strong>Look: </strong>Glitter Bomb Lips</p><p><strong>Inspiration:</strong> Childhood nostalgia with reference to fairytales.</p><p><strong>Key Product:</strong> Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Dolomites (out June) and a mix of Nars Lipstick in Deborah (out June) with art shop glitter.</p><p><strong>Tip:</strong> Create a thick base of the brown eyeshadow from the duo palette, going right up into the brows. Layer over the lilac shade in the centre of your lid and and on the inner corners of your eye. Pre-mix the lipstick and the glitter and apply using a fine art brush.</p>

<p><strong>Make-up Artist:</strong> Gucci Westman for Revlon </p><p><strong>Look:</strong> Day Smoky Eye </p><p><strong>Inspiration: </strong>Gucci wanted to recreate the exact shade of one of the furs in the collection.</p><p><strong>Key Product:</strong> Revlon's new <a href="http://www.revlon.com/Revlon-Home/Products/Eyes/Eye-Shadow/Revlon-Colorstay-Shadowlinks.aspx">ShadowLinks in Cocoa, Greige, Chocolate and Charcoal</a>.</p><p><strong>Tip: </strong>Blend the four eyeshadow shades on the back of your hand before applying and sweep the pigment under your lower lash line for a smudgy, metallic smoky eye.</p>

<p><strong>Make-up Artist:</strong> Diane Kendal for Nars</p><p><strong>Look:</strong> Copper Undersmoke</p><p><strong>Inspiration:</strong> North West American girls; Patagonia comes to New York.</p><p><strong>Key Product:</strong> <a href="http://www.narscosmetics.co.uk/color/eyes/eyeliner-pencil/mambo">Nars Eyeliner Pencil in Mambo, £16,</a> swept underneath lower lash line and flicked out.</p><p><strong>Tip:</strong> Smudge in the liner using a blending brush and layer over Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Dolomites (out June) for definition.</p>

For a ‘just kissed’ lip press the lipstick in with your thumb.</p>

<p><strong>Make-up Artist: </strong>Talia Shobrook for Laura Mercier</p><p><strong>Look:</strong> Bitten Lips</p><p><strong>Inspiration:</strong> Bianca Jagger’s attitude and the textures in the collection.</p><p><strong>Key Product: </strong>Laura Mercier Lipstick in <a href="http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Laura+Mercier+Cr%C3%A8me+Smooth+Lip+Colour/D352809,default,pd.html">Portofino Red and Mango, £21 each.</a></p><p><strong>Tip:</strong> To get the bitten lip effect mix the lipstick two shades on your hand and apply with an eye blending brush. Close your lips and sweep the brush from side to side. </p>

The brow should start square and taper to a fine point. The trick to this is in the application, aim to softly buff the brows following natural hair growth rather than stencilling on. </p>

<p><strong>Make-up Artist:</strong> Pat McGrath for Max Factor</p><p><strong>Look: </strong>Subtle Flush</p><p><strong>Inspiration: </strong>Victoria loved the models exactly how they came into the fitting; cool and strong characters with little make-up.</p><p><strong>Key Product:</strong> Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation (out May) and Max Factor Masterpiece Transformer Mascara (out May) just at the roots.</p><p><strong>Tip: </strong>Pat removed foundation from the cheeks and the eyelids to expose the models natural colouring underneath. </p>

<p><strong>Make-up Artist:</strong> James Kaliardos for Mac</p><p><strong>Look: </strong>Glossed Lids</p><p><strong>Inspiration: </strong>The Ballet Rousse – 1900’s poets, dancers and artists fleeing Russia and traveling to Paris.</p><p><strong>Key Product:</strong> Mac Eyeshadow in Grey Matter (out soon), Lipstick in Dusty Mauve (out soon) and <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/793/922/Products/Multi-Use/Mixing-Medium-Eyeliner/index.tmpl">Mixing Medium in Clear.</a></p><p><strong>Tip: </strong>Blend the eyeshadow and the lipstick together and buff together for a subtle mauve shade. Add a slick off clear gloss over the top gives it that lived-in feel.</p>

Add the gloss mixing medium over the top of the shadow at the very last minute to give a futuristic sheen.<
