Hailey and Justin Bieber have opened up about the experience of adult acne and particularly the effect that social media has on them as they continue to struggle with it.
During a recent episode of their Facebook series The Biebers On Watch, the model gave her husband of almost two years a home spa treatment as they self-isolate together in Canada.
While applying cream to the singer’s face, the 23-year-old discussed how she feels about her skin after suffering with acne for a year.
‘Actually, within the last year, I started getting a little bit of, like, onset adult acne too from my IUD because I’d never been on birth control before, so my hormones were a little out of balance,’ she recalled. ‘But for me, my spot was my forehead…it would be, like, a little pattern.’
The 26-year-old shared his wife’s frustrations, revealing that he would often breakout when he became ‘super stressed but it would never stay,’ in the past.
‘But now it’s like, you now, like, so cystic and it’s, like, bubbly and it won’t go away,’ he continued.
The 'Stuck With U' singer said that acne ‘bugs’ him. ‘I wear a hat a lot more, which then probably makes it worse but I mean who likes acne? It’s the worst,’ he added.
‘It’s the worst for your self-confidence because, like, you know, especially because all of these filters on Instagram, you know, people are like looking perfect with their skin and you feel like that’s reality. But in reality, a lot of people probably have bad skin.’
Elsewhere in their discussion, the couple opened up about their skin routines and Bieber said that ‘some things work on some skins and skin reacts bad to certain products’.
‘People struggle with their skin, you’re not alone,' he added to comfort fans who may also struggle with acne.
Last month, the model discussed what it’s like to suffer from Perioral dermatitis, which involves the accumulation of acne in the lower half of the face, and said that she avoids putting any products containing fragrance on her skin.
‘Certain products irritate my skin, giving me a horrible itchy rash around my mouth and eyes,’ she told Glamour UK.
