When creative director of British fashion label Mother of Pearl, Amy Powney, was preparing for her wedding, she struggled to find a dress she liked, and so naturally, she designed her own.
'I’m not a traditional wedding gown girl, but as a designer, I had the luxury of making my own outfit,' she told the Independent.
A year on, she has launched a new bridal capsule collection, 'Pearly Whites', aimed at brides looking for something a little different.
'I decided I wanted to offer options to other women out there who like me, don’t want to get married in a conventional wedding dress. The Pearly Whites line features beautiful, easy-to-wear pieces handmade in our studio,' says Powney.
The small collection features two mid-calf length shift dresses, one with long fluted sleeves and cut-away shoulders, and the other with puffed sleeves, shoulder ruffles and an embellished pearl collar. There is also a chic high-waisted pair of trousers with faux pearl detail on the waist and a matching ruffled shirt, and a pair of white mules with an oversized bow and a pearl lined strap.
As well as offering the bride something uniquely whimsical, the pieces are also made entirely from organic materials, using sustainable methods. Since wining the 2017 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, Powney has spent the majority of her prize money on making Mother of Pearl more eco-friendly.
So for those looking for a wedding outfit that is both a style statement and sustainably sound, look no further. The full Pearly Whites collection can be seen at motherofpearl.co.uk.
