Yes, it might seem like summer has only just finished but that means Halloween is just around the corner. So, in other words, get planning that show-stopping outfit right this second.

In case you wanted to step away from the crowd or blend in (each vibe is totally fine), Pinterest have released the most popular costume searches already for 2018. Usually, Halloween costumes tend to follow big events or films that have happened in the year so some of the searches won't come as much of a surprise. (No judgement here if you've already made your custom-Givenchy replica Meghan Markle wedding dress.)

However, some of them we just didn't see coming. Here's what's been generating the most buzz on Pinterest when it comes to Halloween 2018 😈

Solo Costumes

1.Mamma Mia!

Excellently, one of the most popular films of the year lends itself perfectly to a Halloween costume. Get those flares out of the dressing up box and proudly show up at the party as Lily James' character Donna. Beware, searches are up by a humungous 1636% so others might have got the same idea.

2. Tonya Harding

Thanks to Margot Robbie's incredible performance as Tonya Harding in this year's film, costume searches for how to recreate the eighties icon and ice skating champion's costume have increased by 720%.

3. Edna Mode

Searches for the animated The Incredibles 2 character are up by 669% thanks to the the long-awaited sequel to the popular film finally arriving on screens this year.

4. Cow

We're sorry but we just can't tell you why searches for 'cow' Halloween costumes are up by 680%. But, they are, nevertheless.

5. Black Panther

Searches for costumes of the incredible characters from Wakanda are up by 504% thanks to the huge popularity of the Marvel film.

6. Riverdale

Going as one of the Riverdale characters is actually pretty easy. It's essentially high-school prep/cheerleader right? Perhaps this (and the Netflix show's cult teen following) explain the 316% increase in costume-inspiration searches this year.

7. 90's Icons

We'd happily recreate our 90's icons for Halloween every single year, but for 2018, other people have got the same idea too with searches up 110%. It could be down to that will-they-won't-they Spice Girls reunion or Britney's incredible comeback. Either way, get your Cher Horowitz costume ready.

8. Frida Kahlo

Searches for costumes depicting the legendary feminist icon/Mexican painter are up by 55% this year which could be down to renewed interest in the incredible life of the artist thanks to an exhibition of her work at the V&A museum in London this year. Plus, if you do chose this costume you're following in the footsteps of Queen Beyoncé, who chose to dress as Kahlo for Halloween 2014.

Group/couple costumes

1. Dinosaur family

We can't quite put our finger on why searches for 'Dinosaur family' are up by a whopping 803% but we're guessing Chris Pratt's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (which came out in June) might have something to do with it.

2. Royal Wedding

Given that 2018 was the year Prince Harry finally settled down and tied the knot with Meghan Markle (that's the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to us now), we're not surprised to see searches for Harry and Meghan costumes increase by 733% this year. If you wanted to make it a squad thing, why not grab a few more friends and go as Kate, Wills, Charles, the Queen and the whole gang?

3. The Incredibles

Thanks to the aforementioned hype surrounding this beloved sequel, it's no surprise that what has always been a pretty good group Halloween costume has increased in Pinterest searches by 392%.

4. Neverland

Searches for Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, Hook and crew are up by 250% which could just be because it's an eternally great group costume as there is so much variety. Plus, Tinkerbell costumes never get old.

5. Avocado Toast

The return and mass worship of the avocado has definitely been a thing over the last few years. Proving it's not disappearing from the 'millennial' radar any time soon is the fact that searches for costumes of the popular breakfast item are up by 245%.

6. Carnival

Old-fashioned carnival costumes - think ringmasters and lion-tamers - have grown in search on Pinterest by 188%, which we're going to guess comes down to the fact that, almost a year later, people are still obsessed with The Greatest Showman.

Makeup Looks

1.Pumpkin

The pumpkin is synonymous with Halloween but, this year, party-goers want to take it to the next level by creating the look of the spooky autumnal food item on their face. Or perhaps .we're just all getting a bit more creative with our makeup looks as searches are up 884%.

2. Celestial

Searches for inspiration for any night sky/astrological makeup are up by 158%. This is a look that your eye palettes and highlighters will come in particularly useful for.

4. Spiderweb.

An oldie but a goodie, there's been an increase of 71% in searches for spiderweb makeup this year. Our guide for how to do cobweb eyes can be found here.

5. Leopard Print

It's been a huge trend on the catwalk and high street for 2018, so it's no surprise to see we're becoming so obsessed with leopard print that we're even frantically searching (with an increase of 66%) for how to apply the look on our faces.

6. Fairy

It's not all scary as searches for the best inspiration for 'fairy' style makeup have grown by 55%. Most of the Pinterest results do show up a Halloween twist though to make it party-appropriate. Think dark glittery eyes and bright metallic lips.
