With approximately 76 engagements to complete, in just under 16 days, during their royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand, Meghan Markle has clearly done some seriously in-depth fashion research to pay tribute to the fashion industry 'Down Under'.

And while we've all fallen in love with the Karen Gee form-fitting ivory shift dress she wore on the day of her pregnancy announcement, and that stunning Zimmermann ivory-coloured dress for her first day in Fiji, we couldn't help but notice the sustainability focus of the Duchess of Sussex's wardrobe in recent days.

Over the weekend, the royal wore not one but three sustainable pieces from designer brands for her final days in Australia.

1) Veja

While watching the sailing with Prince Harry during the Invictus Games on Saturday, the mother-to-be wore a pair of pristine Veja V-10 leather trainers. The Australian label is loved by fellow eco-conscious shoppers Emma Watson and Marion Cotillard, as a result of its transparency.

Since 2005, Veja has been making environmentally-friendly vegan trainers, made with raw materials sourced from organic family and ecological agriculture (organic cotton, biodegradable rubber, recycled plastic, jute, hemp and vegetable-tanned leather), without chemicals or polluting processes.

It's also certified fair-trade and each cotton farmer holds an organic farming certificate.

Meghan teamed her look with a pair of black jeans from Outland Denim, which are also ethically made. The brand's website reads: 'We source the finest raw materials from around the world while offering sustainable employment and training opportunities to women rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation.'

2) Stella McCartney

For the opening of the Invictus Games on Saturday, the Duchess recycled her Stella McCartney (who designed her second wedding dress) navy cape dress she originally wore for the Queen's 92nd birthday celebrations earlier this year. She teamed the look with a coat by Gillian Anderson for Winser.

The British designer is a pioneer in the realm of sustainability in the fashion industry, sourcing as many sustainable materials as possible (organic cotton, fibres from forests etc), focussing on social sustainability and collaborations with NGOs, as well as promoting a cruelty-free ethos.

3) Reformation

Meanwhile, for her final day in Australia and visit to Fraser Island on Sunday, the Duchess wore a 'Pineapple' maxi dress from the American label, Reformation.

The brand is widely known to put sustainability at the heart of everything it produces. Its website explains the brand invests in green building in infrastructure to minimise their waste, water, and energy footprints.

The company also promotes its own sustainability project - RefScale - to track its environmental footprint and pounds of waste it generates and shares information about the impact each garment has on the environment on every product page.

This isn't the first time Markle has made an effort to wear sustainable clothing in her royal wardrobe.

For years, the royal has worn pieces from Welsh brand Hiut Denim (who limit production to 100 pairs of jeans a week, and offer free repairs for life), and ethically-sourced wool brand Theory.
