Anybody who is aware of Munroe Bergdorf knows that she will not be silenced.
Whether she's speaking out on racial injustices, trans rights or the criticism of brands who don't do their bit of diversity, she's a force to be reckoned with.

But now, Bergdorf has a new venture, as she has teamed up with Bluebella, a British lingerie company, for their Valentine’s Day campaign.

The brand was founded by entrepreneur Emily Bendell in 2005, with the help of Addidi Business Angels, a London-based female investor club.

‘Bluebella is a lingerie brand created by women and I think that's so important, especially in today's society when we are becoming more conscious of conversations surrounding inclusivity and authenticity,’ Bergdorf told ELLE UK.

In the last year, the discussion around lingerie, and who models it, has become global. Early last year, Chief Marketing Officer for Victoria's Secret, Ed Razek, was slated for saying that ‘transsexuals’ didn’t represent the image the company was pushing for. He later apologised for this remark.

But while Razek might have perpetuated a negative stereotype about who we see modelling lingerie, brands like Savage By Fenty are doing their bit to change all that, opening up the industry to a much wider range of shapes, sizes, skin colours and gender identities.

‘The collaboration came about after I wore a Bluebella lingerie set on a magazine cover. The brand saw it and asked my stylist if I would consider working with them,’ Bergdorf says, adding, ‘I was immediately keen as I've been a fan the brand for a while and love how empowering their message.’

‘Lingerie for me is something that has to make me feel my best self. I don't want to feel like I'm somebody else, or someone else's idea of attractive,’ explains Bergdorf, who is currently the LGBT+ editor for Dazed Beauty. Fronting Bluebella’s campaign is more than just making a point, but an ode to women who deserve to see themselves reflected in all parts of the fashion industry. ‘Regardless of whether you're trans, curvy, fuller bust or petite, all women should be represented and visible,’ says Bergdorf.

The collection is now available on Bluebella.
