Amal Clooney Exudes Elegance In Blush Bridal Gown In Venice

Amal Clooney returned to her failsafe red-carpet formula last night as she stepped out in Venice wearing an archive, bridal-inspired Christian Dior design. The human rights lawyer – who was pictured arriving to the Diane Von Furstenberg Awards alongside husband George – stole the spotlight in a dress that was designed by John Galliano in the year 2000.

Clooney looked impossibly chic in the blush dress, which featured spaghetti straps, lace detail, a tulle overskirt and a tie around the hips, creating a dropped-waist silhouette.

The dress was originally presented as part of Dior's autumn/winter 2000 collection. It was styled on the catwalk with woolly winter accessories and dramatic gold face paint, but Clooney kept it evening appropriate by teaming it simply with strappy silver sandals and dangly diamond earrings.

It is of course not the first time that Clooney has turned to a Galliano design. The lawyer has worn both current and vintage creations by the designer on a number of occasions over the years. Perhaps most notably, she wore Galliano for Maison Margiela to attend the 2015 Met Gala, while more recently she wore another vintage Dior design (also a bridal-inspired dress), this one from the spring/summer 1999 collection for a date night with George. This is a woman who knows how to pick a dress.

Clooney was in attendance at the event as she was being honoured with the DVF Leadership Award. According to the organisation's website, the DVF Awards – which was launched in 2010 – aims to "recognise and support extraordinary women who are dedicated to transforming the lives of other women; women who have had the courage to fight, the power to survive, and the leadership to inspire".
