This Saturday, Sydney Sweeney — of Euphoria, Madame Web and The White Lotus fame — will host Saturday Night Live in New York. In the run up, the 26-year-old has been out and about on the promotional train talking of her excitement for her first-time hosting role but what we're more keen to dissect is the street-style outfits she's been wearing to get her from studio to studio, each one moving further away from her usually pretty, hyper-feminine red-carpet wardrobe.

On Friday afternoon, with just 24 hours to go until the broadcast, the actor wore what might be her best look yet: a leather blouse and short set, complete with cat-eye shades and sheerer-than-sheer black tights. Call us biased, as Sweeney is wearing a leather look by ELLE-favourite, London-based designer Supriya Lele. It's a great meeting of designer and talent, with just the right amount of subversive coinciding with A-list polish and one we hope will come together again sometime soon.

It was just a few weeks ago that we first saw the look during a preview at London Fashion Week and here it is now on a new Hollywood heavyweight, with the perspex shoes of the lookbook styling swapped out for pointed black pumps.

Thought the end of the week brought us this sartorial triumph, the actor started this fresh style crusade on Monday, wearing two equally monochrome looks that sit at completely the opposite ends of the palette. One looked to the lightness of spring with an all-over lilac hue made up of some of fashion's most celebrated labels. There was the slinky underpinning of her Tom Ford dress, which was then styled with a signature Alaïa belt in the exact same shade and finished with open-toe white boots. On the other hand, her other look was all about a cacophony of brown hues that spoke to the chilly spell New York is currently experiencing. She wrapped up in a patent brown trench worn with matching knee-high boots, tweed textures shorts and a matching polo neck sweater. The actor added a pair of optical frames to bring a touch of the cerebral to the look. Or, perhaps she just was over wearing contacts for the day.

What followed the next day was Sweeney in a full look by Givenchy. Here was a haute take on denim, with the actor wearing top-to-toe true blue complete with a matching set of accessories. In principle, a two-piece set worn with coordinating accessories reads as ladylike, even retro, but here, when worn in a light-wash denim and with accessories more punk than prim, it worked with a more contemporary effect.

To round out the looks of the week thus far, Sweeney turned to the immaculate allure of the purest off-white colour, wearing it in two different ways. One was a long-length coat styled with an ab-bearing jumper and flared trousers, complete with blackout shades befitting the Hollywood star. The second, which had a touch of the Indie Sleaze about it thanks to leather shorts worn with super-sheer tights, saw that same cream shade this time worn in a knitted jumper with fur-detail sleeves to take the look in a more après-ski direction.

What each of these looks prove is that Sweeney, whose red-carpet style is well-established, is vying to prove her out-and-about everyday style credentials, too. This more relaxed run of looks is going to be more relatable for her fans to emulate, with just enough Hollywood fashion finesse to remind us that she is that Sydney Sweeney after all. Notes taken.
