Melania Trump Wore Reem Acra The Night Before Her Husband's Inauguration

Melania Trump's wardrobe has been the topic of much discussion of late. Or rather, her potential lack of wardrobe after many US designers noted their refusal to dress her owing to her husband's often-controversial political views.

Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Sophie Theallet, Naeem Khan and Derek Lam are just a few of them.

So, what the former-model will wear to today's inauguration ceremony and ball - her debut outing as the First Lady - has been much speculated about. But, if last night's outfit for a candlelight dinner to celebrate the coming inauguration is anything to go by, we can assume it will likely be made by Reem Acra.

The 46 year-old wore a custom-made long-sleeved, sequin-embellished gold gown, notably modest with it's high neckline and floor-length hem.

The Beirut-born designer is best-known for her bridal and red carpet gowns, and is often seen on stars at the biggest Hollywood events.

In case you're thinking 'pffttt who cares what Melania wears?!', its probably worth noting that Michelle Obama chose a gown by little-known designer Jason Wu for her husband's first inaugural ball in 2008. The moment catapulted Wu into the limelight and he is now a well-known, successful designer. The white, one-shoulder gown embellished with delicate flowers is now on show at the Smithsonian, a bona fide piece of American history.

So, though it may seem superficial, Mrs Trump's outfits could make or break a designer. Which way it will go only time will tell.
