1. Velvet for spring, will be a thing

A turquoise, crushed velvet spring/summer dress sounds wrong on paper, but on Victoria Beckham's SS17 runway it looked incredibly right. So right, in fact, that the sight of her plush, slouchy dresses and skirts made me wonder why velvet in spring isn't one of those fashion don'ts that are done more often, like white in winter or mixing black and navy. And in truth, most spring days in London are quite chilly.

'You know velvet is very light. It's light and buttery, great to wear in summer,' Beckham tells me after the show.

'It's something that I love and it normally feels older and heavier, whereas I've taken the fabric and worked it and deconstructed it to create a new silhouette.'

2. Bralettes are trending

Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang and Altuzarra have all shown them. And you know what they say about groups of three. It just remains to be seen how many women can realistically wear their bras in public, even if styled under a blazer as we've been seeing on runways this week.

Victoria showed hers with satin trouser suits, which looked vaguely like lingerie, and used them to advance an idea she established in February.

'Last season we had the corsetry in the bodices and we loosened it up with the fabrics. This season we've taken it one step further with the bra top. It's quite a feminine tool. It feels very sexy. Something people would associate with me. And I wanted to give a summer take on it.'

3. Colour is back

Mind you, colour is always back come spring/summer. It's the season of colour. But it was the mixing of traditionally wintry ribbed knits and velvet with a summery palette of ivory, lilac, aquamarine, and tangerine that made the work interesting in a trans-seasonal way, and all the more memorable as a result.
