Jaeger London's Standout Show

On this miserably wet and cold Saturday when the fashion press are diffidently trying to channel spring with their brightly-coloured, wafty outfits, the Jaeger London show was a visual crib sheet on what we should actually be wearing...

Being Jaeger – like fellow Brit labels Burberry and Aquascutum – a great winter coat is what they are known for. But this was no standard fare of basic navy pea coats. Designer Stuart Stockdale played with proportions and textures to great effect; huge sheepskin lapelled floor-length coats, tweed trench coats with square ponyskin pockets, backless sheepskin waistcoats, caramel ponyskin swing jackets and long sleeveless shots of silk.

The stiff long-sleeved shifts with large square pockets were very Celine in their 70s minimalism, and the colour palette was delicious; autumn favourites tobacco, rust, navy, military green mixed with shots of bright colour in cerise, yellow and cobalt. Shoes – a consistent highlight for Jaeger London – came with spat and piping details or block colours. A fabulous show to guide us through winter.
