Alexander McQueen's Emotional tribute

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and Sarah Jessica Parker were among 2,000 invited guests representing friends, family and the international fashion industry who gathered at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

The hour-long service featured readings from various high-profile supporters. US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour read a moving tribute to the designer, mentioning his on/off relationship with American Vogue. Suzy Menkes, fashion and culture editor of The International Herald Tribune, spoke of having never missed a McQueen show. Close friend Annabel Nielson talked of their last Christmas together while Bjork – dressed as an angel in a gold headdress with wings – sang Gloomy Sunday based on a Billy Holiday tune. Michael Nyman played piano and a gospel choir sang twice.

ELLE’s Editor-in-Chief Lorraine Candy said, “I think the idea was for a celebration but it was a sad occasion and a very sombre tribute.”
