Claudia Winkleman's high street crusade

The best thing about it? Apart from the dazzling sequins and jaw-dropping male costumes, it’s got to be Claudia Winkleman. Her acerbic wit teamed with confident style has made her the thinking girl’s TV presenter. We caught up with Claudia over breakfast to talk fashion.

First on our list of questions – and one asked after by numerous ELLE staffers - who cuts your hair? “Michael at Nyumba on London’s Mount Street. I love him” She’s “loves” a lot of things and is as bubbly and natural as you'd hope. “I’m nervous of flicks, I don’t want to look like a school-run Mum. I want to look “not done”. Like I hang out outside by the bins”. So is that her signature look for clothes too? “Chrissy Hynde meets filthy teenager is my ultimate goal. I know now what I feel most comfortable in, and that’s a lot of black. Breton stripes, skinny trousers and huge heels I can’t even walk in”.

We were surprised to hear that you only wear high street? “I really go in for supporting the high street, it’s very important for me. I don’t think it’s right to present telly at 6.30pm in head-to-toe Balenciaga. I get about 50 requests a day from people wanting to know what I’m wearing.
