Christopher Bailey is awarded an MBE

Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry, is the latest fashion designer to be honoured by the Queen in her 2009 Birthday Honours list, published this weekend.

Yorkshire born Bailey was named a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire thats an MBE to you and me for his services to the British fashion industry, and is certainly one of countrys most deserving candidates.

As head of the much loved British Heritage brand, Bailey has taken the company from strength to strength during his eight year tenure, producing winning collections that have seen Burberry weather the recession storm, as well as overseeing the design of the impressive new HQs in London and New York and setting up the Burberry Foundation which invests in key youth charities to help Britains youth achieve their goals through power and creativity.

Speaking to ELLEuk.com today, Bailey said, " I am both honoured and humbled to be named a member of the British Empire by Her Majesty The Queen. This award also recognises the incredible team I work with."

Also honoured in this weekends list for their services to the British fashion industry were Net-A-Porter founder Natalie Massanet (who also received an MBE) and London College of Fashions professor Frances Corner who was named an OBE.

Not forgetting the beauty industry, Queen Elizabeth also named iconic hairdresser Vidal Sassoon a CBE.
