Paris latest: Chloe shows the softer side of the eighties

Now in her second season for Chloe, designer Hannah MacGibbon carries the weight of restoring sell-out appeal to this brand that had its red-hot years under Phoebe Philos reign, squarely on her shoulders. And, it looks like shes well on the way to reviving the sexy- girly aesthetic that made Chloe the go to brand for twenty somethings not so long ago.

For autumn 09, from the hair and make-up right down to the shoes, the eighties was her source of inspiration. Hot on the heels of her successful spring collection, tailoring followed the wide shouldered jacket, tapered leg trousers silhouette that is ubiquitous again for autumn.

Great separates just kept on coming. Blanket coats that looked chic and modern, fluid sexy trousers, suedette tailored shorts, silk bib front blouses with a military feel, jumpsuits and so-now thigh high boots In MacGibbons hands, the eighties look had a distinctly romantic edge that is perfect for Chloe. Lady Diana style romantic ruffle front blouses and Pierrot clown ruffle neck tops as well as sexy floor length chiffon dresses that are what this brand should be all about.

The tonal palette of tan, cream, khaki, tobacco and butter was the epitome of eighties chic, and for evening black velvet glammed things up. Some super luxe black velvet dungarees worn with a cream silk blouse with a gold braid belt, or in a one shouldered velvet jumpsuit.

There has been much doom and gloom of the catwalks this week, but on Chloes runway, things are really on the up
