All the latest news about New York Fashion Week a/w 09

It's still eight weeks away and we haven't even bought all our Christmas presents yet, but already the fashion industry is gearing-up for New York Fashion Week, which will kick off the International Collections for a/w 09, on February 13th.

First up is the news today that Vera Wang, a New York Fashion Week icon, will not be showing at the Bryant Park tents in February. Despite this being the official home of Fashion Week she will now show her collection in the 'more intimate' setting of her down town Mercer Street store.

She told WWD today that she had come to this difficult decision on Tuesday night, 'as a business woman, a designer and a person' aware of the current world economic climate.

She is yet to design the collection that will debut in February, but says it will now certainly reflect the new way in which she will be showing.

As we reported last month, Barbie, who will be 50 years young next year, will be marking her golden anniversary with a live show at NY Fashion Week, and today Christian Louboutin has confirmed he will be designing a shoe especially for the show.

The Barbie Pantone 219 Pink pump will be worn by each of the 50 models who will parade Barbie-inspired outfits in the show. They will be designed by a clutch of yet-to-be-named iconic American designers.

Louboutin's motivation behind designing the shoe was simple, 'I guess I always had a little "girlie" side who liked Barbie,' he said. 'Barbie needs to wear great shoes because every girl needs to wear great shoes,' he added.
