The highlights were

MATTHEW WILLIAMSON

Although Matthew is no stranger to New York, this was the first time he had showed at the Bryant Park tents and his choice of venue was not the only thing that felt new.

Sharp rock 'n roll trouser suits in Williamson’s signature shade of pink kicked off the show. These were cut with a leaner, stronger silhouette than we're used to from Williamson, as were the sleeveless tux jackets with structured shoulders. Clashing block coloured bomber jackets in pink, red and lime were also a success.

Although silhouettes felt new and confident, there was an obvious return to Williamson’s Ibiza party influences too and plenty of his trademark boho looks like printed maxi dresses, kaftan tops, beaded gowns and pretty prints that should keep celebrity fans like Daisy Lowe, who sat front row with her pet pooch, happy all summer.

RODARTE

Kate and Laura Mulleavy continue to set their own agenda in the fashion world with their other worldly cobweb, collage dresses of patchwork lace, tulle, chiffon, crystal and chains. They embraced the bright colours we've seen on the spring 09 catwalks all week, with orange and blue punctuating their palette of nude, white, cream and black. Winter's cobweb tights were replaced with laser cut, white and cream leather leggings, worn with sky-high Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte shoes. The most wearable (and saleable) pieces were the skin tight trousers and leather bomber jackets with fur panels - what the Rodarte girl wears when she’s in the real world!

Celeb fan Natalie Portman graced the front row at the show which was held in Manhattan's Gagosian Gallery. Here the duo had deconstructed the space to create a derelict look that’s sits perfectly with their design
