On the Parisian agenda? Unsurprisingly, refinement was a running theme across so many of the collections. Exceptionally well groomed (but still very manly, of course) the models at Valentino stormed the catwalk without a hair out of place and dressed in houndstooth, checks and plaids. At Maison Martin Margiela jumpsuits were cleverly disguised at suits. Practical, non?
Taking a considerably more luxe approach, Givenchy was riddled with American and occult vibes whilst at Dior Homme, Kris Van Ash displayed a sci-fi take on tailoring through a spectrum of blues, symbols and belted jackets.
For Louis Vuitton - always a highlight of any fashion week - animal print was visible on scarfs, bags and delicately reproduced on jackets (with specialist needlework, no less) and was a collection that showcased the marriage between technical skill and luxury. Dinos and Jake Chapman were commissioned to make imagery which included a comical snow leopard bursting with character and a decadent print which featured owls nestled between flora and fauna and appeared on oversized bags, jackets and overcoats.
Sportwear is still having its moment as we saw trainers and Lanvin and gold and silver foils at Issey Miyake. Designers are hoping for a much warmer autumn/winter 2013 - compared to our big freeze - and we saw shorts luxe at Alexander Wang, quilted at Issey Miyake and trousers cropped just below the knees and above the ankles at Carven.
Finishing the week long set of shows was Saint Laurent Paris whose rock'n'roll vibe was clear throughout, and featured leather trousers, ripped jeans, skinny legs and reds and blacks which came in various sizes of stripes and checks.
All attention in Paris has now turned to Couture fashion week where Versace kicked things off last night. Stay on ELLEuk.com for updates and street style from the shows...
