And the BFA nominees are...

Sarah Burton will face off against Christopher Kane and Erdem for the Designer of the year award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards, according to a shortlist of nominees just released by the British Fashion Council.

The BFAs honour the UKs most influential designers, business leaders, models and celebrities in an event that invitees anticipate as something of a style Oscars.

This years ceremony, coming up in late November, promises to be as glittering an affair as ever, judging by the parade of impressive nominees filling the just-released shortlist.

Two of the most important awards are the Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear and the Best Designer Brand honours. The newbies up for consideration are J.W. Anderson, Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto. In the more established category, the candidates are Burberry, Stella McCartney, Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham. Burberry and Beckham were nominated in the same field for last years awards.

Another category that caught our eyes was the Model of the Year category. At 19 years old, nominee Georgia May Jagger is less than half the age of fellow contenders Kristen McMenamy (46) and Stella Tennant (40).
