Alexander Wang's next move...

Those things are nice too, but what he really, really wants... is to be the next Ralph Lauren.

In a profile in the latest issue of US Harper’s Bazaar, Wang says that he has ‘always looked up to’ the master of American prep.

‘That's what I want to be able to do—have control until the very end. And at the same time, have as much passion and love and enjoy it as much, and for that to be able to be translated into the product,’ he says. ‘You know the things that he loves, you can see it, you can see it in the stores, you can feel it in the product that he creates.’

Emulating Lauren underpins the next stage of Wang’s business development: launching a lifestyle line. If a recent interiors feature about his apartment is any model, we predict furry sofa cushions and lots of black.

Either way, Wang isn’t going anywhere. He’s been around the fashion block for six years, long enough to grow annoyed whenever anyone refers to him as an ‘it’ designer. A friend who referred to Wang’s ‘it’-ness in a blog post received an instant response.

‘I texted him right away and I was like, “Please do not ever refer to me as anything It, whether it's It boy, It designer, It person.”’
