We've been in lockdown for *checks watch* approximately 100 years now.
It's hard to believe it's been over a year of social distancing and entertaining ourselves indoors with endless Zoom parties and Netflix movie nights. That's long enough to work up an appetite for going out out and spending weeks avoiding screens, doing the antithesis of what we've spent the last year doing.
And that goes for style too. For many of us, it'll soon be time to ditch the jogging bottoms and hoodies and embrace an era of outrageous overdressing - starting with sunglasses, as we re-enter the world just as summer hits on June 21.
Goodbye minimalism, hello statement shapes and colour.
Shock Shades, i.e. big, bright sunnies that warrant a second look, are the styles to be seen wearing this summer, with the graphic 'look at me' styles by Loewe emerging as street style favourites.
Part of the luxury Spanish brand's Paula's Ibiza collection, we've long been unable to trawl through our Instagram feeds without spotting the capsule collection's signature oblong frames, in bright pop and neon colours. And that isn't going to change any time soon, with the brand launching equally attention-grabbing styles thanks to its latest Paula's Ibiza drop, available to buy on April 15.
Similarly, Bottega Veneta's statement bug-eyed frames have become social media catnip in recent months, seen on everyone from Rihanna to Missy Elliot, the star of the Italian brand's latest editorial project (its substitute for Instagram, having ditched the platform late last year).
Whether they're by Sun Buddies or Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini by Lozza, a new collection launching this month, the only sunglasses we're interested in after being stuck indoors are loud ones: colour, preferably when it comes to lenses and frames, in all many of unexpected shapes. (We'll take these by Kiko Kostadinov too.)
As with anything, if they're good enough for Rihanna...
