As reputations go, the corset doesn't have the best.
Organ-crushing, faint-inducing, waist-training, a bit burlesque.
But prepare to see the piece in a whole new light.
It's all thanks to Miuccia Prada, who put her take on the lace-up under-piece very much at the forefront of her AW16 collection, which showed in Milan last February.
The Italian designer layered it over everything from Hawaiian shirts, to dresses and coats, making it the standout styling trick from her show. And where Prada goes, everyone else follows.
Come September's round of fashion weeks, everyone who was anyone on the street style circuit had clocked the corset trend.
The best thing about it? You can throw it over pretty much anything. Summer dress? Check. Shirt? Check. Tee? Check. Sweater? Check. Jacket? Check. And there's nothing we love more than a trend that offers a super-easy update to any outfit.
If you fancy giving it a go yourself, the high street has kindly obliged. Go on, do it.
