The Runway Rundown: Marc Cain Injects High Octane-Glamour

The German fashion brand's AW24 collection was a symphony of bold colourways, fine fabrics and even brighter sequins.

By

Berlin may be synonymous with the likes of the Berghain, a refreshing glass of Berliner Pilsner, and the epicentre of fashion districts (Mitte and Kreuzberg, to name but a few), but earlier this month its reputation in the fashion history books was put centre stage after Marc Cain presented a real-life mélange of femininity, glamour and sartorial excellence.

Marc Cain showed its AW24 collection as part of Berlin Fashion Week in the Arena, located in the Friedrichshain neighbourhood, on February 6, and celebrated the ever-enthralling intersection between fashion and art, where creativity knows no limits. Working with the motto ‘Blend Boundaries’, guests were welcomed into the show through a dark room as they tip-toed across floor-strewn flower tendrils. Soon, the models took to the circular catwalk (with a diameter of 31 metres – yes, really) to present the glamour-fuelled collection, which was a splendour of plush prints and opulence.

‘After our brilliant anniversary year, in which we organised a fantastic fashion show at our company headquarters, we are now back in Berlin,’ Helmut Schlotterer, Managing Director, founder and owner of Marc Cain, said ahead of the show. ‘The response to 50 years of Marc Cain has been incredibly positive and we are looking forward to the coming year. There couldn't be a better start than the exciting staging here in the German capital.’ We couldn’t agree more.

Here, everything to know about Marc Cain’s AW24 show:

The Setting

Models were seen walking behind sheer white curtains, which partially concealed each look and kept the invitees on tenterhooks, before they sashayed onto the black-hued catwalk. Guests sat in anticipation in rows of two around the circular catwalk, while the monochrome surroundings served as the perfect backdrop to emphasise the collection’s vast colour palette and prints of pastel pinks and greens, checked trousers and moss green knits.

The Evening Look

While we’d gleefully wear any number of Cain’s AW24 collection looks, we had to wait for the real showstoppers towards the end of the presentation. The pièce-de-résistance? An acid yellow blazer, with its gold chain fastening, and sheer glittery dress with feathered cuffs. Ahead of the now trend-dominating Mob Wife aesthetic, the collection also gave the world a lesson in wearing animal print with style, showcasing a leopard-print, ombré floor-length skirt and jacket twinset, styled with a pair of black stilettos and oversized gold earrings. The perfect modern day interpretation of Studio 54 glitz, if you ask us.

The Textures And Colours

One of the most enduring appeals of Marc Cain is its experimental use of texture and colourways, whether it be a head-to-toe creamy green ensemble made up of a trench coat, suit trousers, jacket, shoes, and over-the-shoulder-tied knitted jumper, a purple two-piece suit styled with pointed toe silver boots, or a camel toned knit and trouser set teamed with emerald green accessories (another colour contrast to add to our style notes for next season). Other shapes included soft sheer underlays topped with structured blazers, and a feminine pussybow shirt styled with a figure-hugging waistcoat.

The Style

The perfect amalgamation of school girl dressing, collegiate fashion, and Dynasty glamour, (think knee-high socks and brogues mixed with burnt orange caps, and sharp shoulder silhouettes), you name it and Marc Cain delivered. The collection featured an array of structured and soft looks, from a shirt and tie, nipped in at the waist with a belted black corset and styled with a beret, to a red carpet-perfect sleeved silver floor-length dress and sheer midi skirts. It was sophistication and femininity at its finest.

The FROW

FROW at the show included the likes of TV predenter Frauke Ludowig and her daughter Nele, supermodel Romee Strijd, as well as Desperate Housewives actor Teri Hatcher and her daughter Emerson. ‘This is my first time at Fashion Week in Berlin,’ the actor revealed on the red carpet ahead of the presentation. ‘The event is very special for me because I can enjoy the evening together with my daughter. The perfect excursion into the world of fashion - and we both love the sophisticated styles from Marc Cain!’
