Every year, the Pantone Colour Institute announces which hue is to be bestowed with the grand honour of becoming Colour of the Year for the approaching 12 months.
This December, Pantone revealed that the chosen shade would be 'Living Coral.'
For anyone in any doubt, 'living coral' is said to be a pink-orange coral shade but with golden undertones, giving it a warmth and depth compared to cooler coral colours.
Pantone has described living coral as 'playful' and representative of our 'innate need for optimism' which certainly seems to be true after a year of particularly savage news items (ahem, Brexit...Trump, we're looking at you.)
Examples of Living Coral on the Spring/Summer 2019 runways include Marc Jacobs' frothy, fluffy living coral coats and corsages, oh and the lovely living coral hair dye as captured backstage.
Rejina Pyo's SS19 show also paid tribute to the future colour of the year.
'Playful' as it is, Living Coral is actually a relatively easy addition to your 2019 wardrobe. As clashing colours still reign, it's a good shade to pair with fuschia and deeper purple colours.
If clashing seems a daunting prospect, it's also a great colour to turn into a head-to-toe tonal look. Find pastel versions of the shade to mix with the more vivid living coral staples of your outfit.
If you're sold on living coral, but have been thwarted in your attempts at early purchasing, here are some Living Coral fashion items to buy right away:
