The cast of Wonder Woman 2 has recruited one of Game of Thrones fans' all-time favourite cast members.

Returning director Patty Jenkins has hired Pedro Pascal (aka Oberyn Martell, aka again the Red Viper) for what is only being described as a substantial role in the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pascal is coming off three years playing drug enforcement agent Javier Peña in Netflix's Narcos. His CV also includes a multi-episode arc on The Good Wife and a scene-stealing performance as secret agent Whiskey in Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

Wonder Woman 2 previously signed up Bridesmaids and former Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig to play the classic DC Comics villain Cheetah. Chris Pine has also been tipped to return, but that's not yet been confirmed by Warner Bros.

The second Wonder Woman movie moves forward in time from World War I to the height of the Cold War in the 1980s, as Diana (Gal Gadot) vows to stop humanity from destroying itself.

Patty Jenkins has promised fans a totally different experience from the original film, saying: "We're actually making a totally different film with a lot of the same, similar like things that we love, but it's its own movie completely, so it's not 'two' to us.

"It's an entirely new adventure together that we couldn't be luckier [to do]."

Wonder Woman 2 is currently on course to begin production this summer, in order to reach US and UK cinemas on November 1, 2019. Watch a trailer for the original film below:
