Tom Hardy has shared new photos from the set of his upcoming movie Fonzo, and it's safe to say this is not the Tom Hardy we're used to.

The British actor has completely transformed himself to play iconic mob boss Al Capone as he nears the end of his life.

Hardy shaved his head for the role and wears a straggly wig of receding hair. His face has also been aged used make-up and prosthetics.

The film will follow Capone after his release from prison as he battles dementia and "his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life".

Two weeks ago Hardy gave fans their first look at him as Capone, sharing a picture where he was seen holding the gangster's iconic fedora hat.

Filming got underway in New Orleans earlier this month, and so far Hardy and director Josh Trank have been keeping fans up-to-date via their Instagram accounts. The movie still has no official release date.

Fonzo also stars Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, Jack Lowden and Linda Cardellini as Capone's long-suffering wife Mae.

Hardy will next be seen on the big screen in Spider-Man spin-off Venom, alongside Jenny Slate, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed.

Venom wrapped filming last month, and is scheduled for release on October 5 in the UK and US.
