From Bella Hadid's ten pound headdress to Lily Collin's seriously dramatic teardrop make-up, the stunning looks are quickly racking up.

But, of course, we've all been waiting for Queen of the Met Gala aka Rihanna. Whether it was last year's Comme des Garçons masterpiece or a chic D&G tuxedo, she always does her homework and literally never fails to wow.

And this year? Well, have you ever seen the Pope in a dress? You most certainly have now.

Rihanna rocked up to the biggest fashion event of the year in a short, silver Maison Margiela dress that essentially resembled the Pope.

Just look at that head dress:

Let's look a little closer shall we?

John Galliano designed her extraordinary look, complete with intricate beading that studs the entire garment. It references his Dior Couture 2001 collection which was inspired by papal regalia - official items of attire and decoration the Pope wears in his capacity as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. She completes the look with Christian Louboutin shoes accented by diamond anklets, because who else could pull those off?

It might be 2018, but you also can’t overstate how symbolic it is that one of the world's biggest popstars stepped onto the red carpet in papal-inspired attire. Sure, you've got Pope John-Paul realness with a Madonna hemline but there's a deeper message here.

While any Catholic man who becomes an ordained priest is eligible to rule the Vatican, women are banned from ever becoming ordained priests, which essentially takes them out of the running to become Pope.

And so in the spirit of this year’s Met Gala theme, Rihanna has reimagined Catholicism as a religion that celebrates women.

The internet are already having a load of fun with the singer's dedication to theme, and generally just praising how amazing she looks. Fans instantly declared that Rihanna is our new Pope - and we 100% okay with that.

Subtly (well, not so subtly) calling out the religion's long-standing bias against women? Pope Rihanna is exactly what it needs.
