Game Of Thrones is known for twisting a knife in its fans' hearts on a pretty regular basis (Red Wedding? Shireen? We could go on…) — and viewers should probably prepare to feel the same way about the finale.

Next year will see the eighth and final season finally arriving on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK, as winter ushers in the long-awaited war between the living and the dead in Westeros.

The survivors of that conflict will likely determine who ends up on the Iron Throne in the series finale. In a recent interview with MTV News, Kit Harington (aka Jon Snow himself) hinted that the climax is likely to be divisive.

"I think a TV series that spanned eight, nine years is an incredibly difficult thing to end," he admitted. "I know not everyone's gonna be happy.

"You can't please everyone. My favourite TV shows are Sopranos and Breaking Bad where they all ended in a way that's never going to satisfy you."

At the very least, it'll be interesting to see if former Game Of Thrones cast member Finn Jones sees his dream ending play out since he recently pitched a scenario where the show ends with democracy in Westeros.

"I basically don't think there will be a throne anymore," he explained. "I don't think there will be a centralised seat of power. I think power will be given back to the individual kingdoms, so more like a democratic rule.

"I think that is probably a bit too utopian for Game of Thrones," he added. "I think what eventually will happen is just, everyone will die."
