Once upon a time in August 2016, Drake proclaimed to the world that he had been in love with Rihanna since he was 22 years old. The two were publicly a couple then, kissing at concerts, until it all came to an end that October. RiRi would start dating billionaire Hassan Jameel at the end of 2016; Drake would go on to date numerous people and have a child with artist and former adult film star Sophie Brussaux. Brussaux and Drake are not close now.
This was not the ending that Drake wanted. In fact, he once envisioned getting much more serious with Rihanna. 'Of course, as life takes shape and teaches you your own lessons, I end up in this situation where I don’t have the fairy tale,' he said on LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s HBO series The Shop. 'Like, "Oh, Drake started a family with Rihanna, and like, this is like so perfect." It’s more like Drake has—it looks so good on paper. By the way, I wanted that too at one time.'
