When former First Lady Michelle Obama met up with Oprah Winfrey to record a special SuperSoul Conversation at Hearst Tower earlier this fall, a group of high school students was also converging in a conference room in the same building. Little did the teenagers know they had a huge surprise in store.

The students, a group of 30 girls hand-picked from New York non-profits Harlem Children’s Zone, Uncommon School Group, and GrassROOTS SuperGirls Society, were invited to Hearst Tower that day under the guise of "story research": They were told they would be watching a pre-recorded interview between Oprah and Michelle and then they would discuss their thoughts on camera for an upcoming piece in O, the Oprah Magazine.

Of course, the live interview was actually being recorded just a few floors above them, and when it ended, Michelle and Oprah snuck down to the conference room where the students had begun their discussion. Just as one girl stood up to share some of her thoughts, Michelle crept through the door and hugged her from behind—and the room erupted into tears and squeals of disbelief.

Watch the heartwarming moment above. There were a lot of happy tears shed.
